Oobah Butler
Oobah Butler’s brain works... Differently. Despite having no formal qualifications, he’s made a name for himself over the past few years by achieving against all odds with little in his pockets and a comical outside- of-the-box way of thinking. After discovering the world’s biggest travel website TripAdvisor wasn’t completely legitimate, he spent six months transforming his garden shed into the platform’s #1 restaurant, dominating world news and attracting over 100 million views upon releasing a now award-winning documentary about it. When struggling Zambian denim designer Georgio Peviani came into his life, Oobah adopted a persona and made headlines with his $20 jeans at Paris Fashion Week. Making films and writing both articles and a 2019 Los Angeles Times and #1 USA Today best-selling book about his endeavors, he has been hailed by as “a genre of one - a true artist” by The Guardian’s Marina Hyde - but the truth is, it’s not so much as giving bullies a bloody nose as sticking a whoopie cushion under their chair.
He created/wrote/produced/starred in the documentary special, THE GREAT AMAZON HEIST, that was produced by Abso Lutley Productions (NATHAN FOR YOU, ERIC ANDRE SHOW) and Zandland. It debuted in October 2023 on Channel 4 in the UK. The film hugely successful for the network and had an incredible social impact - reaching over 2 billion people through online, print & TV media.
Following its success, Channel 4 commissioned two additional doc specials starring Oobah: HOW I MADE A MILLION IN 90 DAYS and HOW TO TRICK YOUR WAY ONTO THE PROPERTY LADDER. He has been nominated at the 2026 Edinburgh TV Festival Awards for Best Presenter - Factual.
Before this, he was the host for LIFE HACKS on Vice, as well as the host for CATFISH on MTV UK for three seasons. Upcoming, he has a finished, but yet-to-be-released doc feature directed by Chris Smith (TIGER KING, 100 FOOT WAVE), and he is currently shooting an series for a major streamer being produced by A24 and Abso Lutley Productions.
With over 250 million views online and groundbreaking TV hits, Oobah continues to challenge systems through inventive, insightful, and hilariously subversive media.
